Notable UT Woman Award
HISTORY
ESTABLISHED: Fall 1995
JUSTIFICATION: Dr. Milton Klein, the University’s
Historian, recommended that outstanding women connected with UT be honored
on an annual basis. In 1995, the Commission for Women inaugurated the
Notable UTK Women Award to recognize women at the University. The award
was setup to honor faculty and staff, alumnae, or administrators for
outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the University.
GUIDELINES/PROCEDURES
Award is given annually and is announced at the Chancellor’s
Honors Banquet in the Spring. The award recognizes women from three
rotating categories:
· Administrator
· Alumnae
· Faculty and staff
The Commission members from a slate prepared by the Notable UT Woman
Committee will select the honoree.
AWARD CRITERIA/ATTRIBUTES:
· A Woman who is outstanding in her field of study.
· A woman who is a pioneer or groundbreaker- the first to achieve
something noteworthy.
· A women who has conducted gender-related research or research
with beneficial effects for women.
AWARD PRIZES/HONORS:
· Framed certificate
· Plaque displayed in the University Center
· Display in Hodges Library
